Strong scientific foundation needed in building new mechanisms of economic, scientific, technological growth: President Putin on Russian Science Day
Moscow, February 9: On the eve of Russian Science Day the President presented awards to young researchers.
While addressing a gathering President Vladimir Putin said, I would like to stress once again that all our national projects require a strong scientific foundation, including the tasks of Russia’s spatial development, building new mechanisms of economic, scientific, technological growth across its vast territory.
This is why very shortly we are launching the development of world-class science and education centres and research facilities. They will first be built in the regions where science and its achievements are particularly important for socio-economic development, including Siberia and the Far East.
One of this project’s advantages is reduced bureaucratic formalities. This has always been appreciated by the scientific community. I expect that the same approach will be fully applied to the Science national project. Added President
Putin said, In recent years, we have significantly increased the number of researchers who are under the age of 39. Strong, talented young people join scientific research teams. This trend is also manifest in the growing number of nominees for this award each year.
Russian science day February 8, was established by presidential decree No. 717 dated June 7, 1999 " On establishing the Day of Russian science.
This holiday marks the date of the Foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, established by order of Emperor Peter I decree of the Senate on January 28 (February 8, new style) 1724.
Established in 2008, this year the annual prize is awarded to young scientists and professionals for contribution to advancing Russian science, for creating new equipment and technology that can boost the innovative development of the economy and social sphere, as well as for strengthening national defence.
The Russian Science Foundation started a special programme in 2017 to support young scientists from the moment they defend a dissertation until they create their own scientific groups.
Over the past two years, more than 1,500 young researchers received the grants; more than 500 started research teams and organised work in such promising fields as digital production technology, personalised healthcare and resource-saving energy.
Let’s introduce a few Awardees-
1. Vyacheslav Dyachuk was born on August 25, 1983, in the village of Kraskino, Primorsky Territory, Khasansky District. He is a senior researcher at the National Scientific Centre for Marine Biology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and holds a PhD in Biological Sciences.
Research interests include developmental biology, embryology, neurobiology, cell biology, cytology and histology.
2. Yevgeny Gorlov was born on May 23, 1984, in Tomsk. He is a research associate at the Zuyev Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and holds a PhD in Physics and Mathematics. Specialises in laser physics and optics.
A study by Yekaterina Grizanova determined the minute mechanisms of insect pests becoming resistant to biological plant protection products, making it possible to create effective and, most importantly, environmentally friendly products that help protect crops and forests.
3. Viktor Zharkov was born on June 15, 1985 in Tomsk. He is a research associate at the Zuyev Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and holds a PhD in Physics and Mathematics. Specialises in laser physics and optics.
