Pune, March 26: Advance technology in every field is a challenge. Digitization, Artificial intelligence is the technical giants which miraculously creates helping hand in all sectors. Abhedya, one of its kind training facility in Asia, means ‘impenetrable’ and symbolises the protective cover that is provided on naval ships fitted with nuclear, biological and chemical detection and protection systems.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba, commissioned a state of the art ‘Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Training Facility - Abhedya', at INS Shivaji, Lonavla on 25 March 2019. "The nuclear, biological and chemical training facility ‘Abhedya’ at INS Shivaji has special significance for the Indian Navy because now we will be able to provide holistic training in all three disciplines to our personnel on board a ship,” said Admiral Sunil Lanba

"We had two simulators for damage control and fire fighting on board a vessel, and now, we have commissioned the nuclear, biological and chemical simulator,” added Admiral Lanba.
In a statement, the Navy said the facility will provide realistic training to naval personnel in detection, protection against and decontamination of nuclear, biological and chemical agents.

Commodore BB Nagpal, CMD, GSL stated that “the timely completion of this Project is a reflection of the superior technical design and execution abilities of the Indian Navy and Goa Shipyard Limited. This unique facility will assist Indian Navy in providing a realistic simulation of Nuclear, Chemical & Biological warfare to its personnel during their NBC damage control training, which till now was limited to theoretical training largely.”

GSL had signed the contract with Indian Navy for construction of NBCTF on 31 March 2016. In line with its tradition of delivering projects ahead of schedule, GSL has handed over the facility to Indian Navy on 28 September 2018, well ahead of schedule.

The steel structure of the simulator represents the relevant NBC compartment of the ship such as upper decks, citadels, cleansing stations, DCHQ, etc. The upper deck compartment is equipped with live agents along with NBC equipment such as SIRS, SICADS and other NBC detection and monitoring equipment. The trainees will have to detect, monitor, survey and decontaminate the areas using actual NBC equipment, providing real-time NBC scenarios.
