Employment on roll..! CSO moves up revealing the total of jobs generated based on EPFO subscribers

New Delhi, March 26: With the 17th General Elections starting form 11th of April till 19th of May stressing over the unemployment concerns, when the oppositions are continuously claiming that the ruling reigns have failed to give over the jobs to the masses, the Central Statistical Office of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation have moved up bringing out the employment related statistics in the formal sector.

 
This covering the period September 2017 onwards, have used information base on the number of subscribers who have subscribed under three major schemes, namely, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme and the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
“The numbers of subscribers are from various sources, there are elements of overlap and the estimates are not additive. The information is based on the number of subscribers, and the tables reflect a dynamic status”, read the statement in relation. According to the EPFO subscribers data shared by CSO for the period of September 2017 to January 2019, there are a total of 20,106,872 people working out of which around 40 lakhs are women and 1876 are transgender.
Revealing the month-wise as well as gender-wise data on the number of new members who have started subscribing to EPF, the number of members that have temporarily ceased their subscription and the number of members who restarted contribution during the month-having ceased subscription in the past, are considerably to be the provisional estimates, it added further.
The estimated total number of new National Pension Scheme subscribers during the said period is 10,30,959. “The present report gives different perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector and does not measure employment at a holistic level”, the statement added further informing that the next report is due for release on 25.04.2019.
