Nepolion chairLondon, April 13 : Six chairs from Napoleon's palace are to be auctioned in London May 1, announced Christie's.

These elegant set of empire white-painted parcel-gilt chairs were from the Chateau de Fontainebleau, where French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte stayed and bade farewell to his guard before being exiled, reported Xinhua.

They bore inventory marks and were believed to have been commissioned as part of Napoleon's restoration of the palace. The emperor has been depicted seated in a chair apparently from the same set as these chairs in Paul Delaroche's famous painting of the 1814 abdication at the Chateau de Fontainbleau.

These chairs had been among a private collection of decorator and interior designer Brian Juhos, and estimated price for the lot stood between 6,000 to 9,000 pounds.

Also among the lots to be auctioned was a Louis XVI ormolu-mounted dresser, or commode a l'Anglaise. It was expected to be sold between 20,000 to 30,000 pounds.

Christie's has earlier announced an Asian Art Week plan between May 14 and 17. Chinese ceramics, jade, textile and other artwork are to be sold then.
