New Delhi, January 30: On 67th martyrdom anniversary, Nation remembered Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on Friday as the day is observed as martyrs' day. It was on this day in 1948 that Mahatma Gandhi fell to an assassin's bullets.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while paying his tribute said, on Martyrs' Day, I pay homage to each and every Martyr who laid his or her life for our mation. Their bravery and courage will always inspire".
While paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, President Mukherjee said, happy to learn that martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi is being marked as Anti Leprosy Day by India leprosy Association, since Mahatma Gandhi had special love and compassion for persons suffering from leprosy.
President Pranab Mukherjee led the nation in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his Samadhi at Rajghat in New Delhi. Meanwhile, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Congress President Sonia Gandhi also paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation.
Cabinet ministers including State Chief Ministers have paid tribute to the person who always walked on the path of nonviolence and Satyagraha.
A programme will be organised at Gandhi Smriti which will be attended by several dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
An all religion prayer meeting was organised at the Samadhi and favourite Bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi were recited.
