New Delhi, Nov. 10: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohanrao Bhagwat paid a courtesy visit to President of India Pranab Mukherjee here at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
The official Twitter handle of Rashtrapati Bhavan @RashtrapatiBhvn, uploaded the photo of the two leaders meeting along with a tweet: “Shri Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak, RSS paid a courtesy call on #PresidentMukherjee on the eve of Diwali today.”
The meeting lasted for over 30 minutes during which Bhagwat extended Diwali greetings to Mukherjee, officials said.
This was probably the first such official meeting between the Sarsanghchalak of RSS and President of India. Earlier, former President Sanjeeva Reddy had participated in a function in Uttar Pradesh along with the then RSS Chief Balasaheb Devras during the Janata Party rule post-emergency.
Bhagwat’s courtesy call on the President came against the background of the severe drubbing BJP received in the Bihar elections. Earlier in the day the RSS Sarsanghchalak was visited by BJP President Amit Shah.
In meeting with Rashtrapati, Bhagwat was accompanied by RSS North Kshetra Sanghchalak Bajrang Lal Gupta, and Delhi Prant Sanghchalak Kulbhushan Ahuja. According to Gupta this was a ‘courtesy meeting and nothing else’.
