Houston (USA), Dec 6: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA) has made a strong appeal to all to help the millions of people in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains lashing the state for the past few days.
The state of Tamil Nadu in South India was experiencing heaviest rains in a century inundating millions of people, destroying their homes and hearths and submersing the capital city of Chennai into flood waters. The unprecedented floods have taken a toll of over 300 lives so far besides causing heavy damage to property.
Chennai suffered unprecedented destruction, with water overflowing from rivers and reservoirs seeping into scores of apartments and houses, markets, shopping malls, offices and educational institutions, unsettling life like never before.
Though there was respite from the rains and the army, navy and air force and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) worked hard to rescue the marooned and provide relief, the water level did not show major signs of receding.
Residents complained about lack of medicines, milk, potable water, vegetables and public transport. Some 1.64 lakh people were housed in 460 camps in Chennai, Cuddalore, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts.
Thousands of people have shifted to houses of other people in the vicinity. The floods rendered the electric supply and communication disrupted, adding to the misery of the affected people.
In such a grim situation the VHP of America requested the people to contribute to help the people of Tamil Nadu generously. The VHPA has announced that it would work in tandem with the appropriate agency to ensure that the funds collected through donation would be used to help the victims of this natural disaster.
VHP of America had extended its help with volunteers to help in Katrina and 9/11 disasters. They raised and donated large sum of funds to the victims of Katrina, 9/11 attack, Haiti earth quake, Fiji Flood victims, Japan earth quake, Gujarat earth quake, Hurricane Sandy, Kashmir floods, Nepal earthquake and numerous other disasters.
Attack on San Bernadion deplored: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA) condemned the brutal Islamist attack in San Bernadion, California; that lead to the death of 14 innocent people, which included many disabled and elderly.
As details emerged, it was increasingly becoming clear that the perpetrators were inspired and supported by the same religious ideology that has led to centuries of genocidal atrocities on Hindus in Asia.
VHPA stood in solidarity with the survivors and the families of the deceased in this time of tragedy, and urged fellow Americans to join hands in ensuring that such heinous atrocities can be thwarted in future.
