Mysore, Feb 3: A visiting delegation of Yazidi community called on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohaqn B hagwat on February 1 and discussed with him on various contemporary issues.

The delegation has come here to participate in the ongoing five-day fifth International Conference of Elders of Ancient Cultures and Traditions. The conference is being hosted by the International Centre for Cultural Studies (ICCS).

Delegates representing over 70 ancient cultures and traditions from 40 countries across the globe are participating in the conference at Mysore which was inaugurated by Dr Bhagwat on February 1. Dr Bhagwat had appealed the participants to honour and celebrate diversity to ensure peaceful co-existence of all human beings with the surrounding nature.

The Yazidi delegation met the RSS Chief on the sidelines of this conference.

Describing this meeting as ‘friendly’ a member of Yazidi team said that they discussed the similarities in Yazidi prayer traditions and Hindu culture. He said that their cultural roots are connected to India.

The Yazidis are not followers of Islam. They have thier own traditions, culture and religion which are akin to Hindu traditions and culture.

The Yazidi community is being subjected to inhuman torture, atrocities, rape and molestation of women by the militants of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Against this background the participation of Yazidi delegation in ICCS conference holds importance.
