Prabhu launches India’s first Wi-Fi service at Mumbai Centarl

Mumbai, Jan 23: Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, inaugurated the Wi - Fi service in a function at Mumbai Central Railway station on Friday as a part of an ambitious project towards Digital India initiative by Indian Railways with the help of RailTel Corporation in collaboration with Google.

After the inauguration of Wi - Fi service, Mumbai Central station has gained the distinguished status of being the first ever station in India to have high – speed internet facility for its thousands of passengers who travel everyday by trains.

MPs Arvind G. Sawant, Gopal C. Shetty, Dr. Kirit Somaiya, and MLAs Ashish Shelar, Waris Yusuf Pathan besides S. K. Sood - General Manager of Central Railway, S. K. Pathak - Addl. General Manager of Western Railway, Rajan Anandan - Vice President & Managing Director of Google South East Asia and India, R. K. Bahuguna - Chairman & Managing Director of RailTel Corporation, Prabhat Sahai – Chairman & Managing Director of Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) & Shailendra Kumar - Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central alongwith other senior Railway officers were also present on this occasion.

It’s worth mentioning that the Indian Railway’s telecom arm, RailTel Corporation will provide Internet services as RailWire via its extensive fibre network, in partnership with Google.

Designed to offer users the best Internet experience, Railwire Wi - Fi will be available to any user who has a working mobile connection on a smart phone. This is all a part of Western Railways continuing endeavours to provide more and better comforts to its esteemed passengers.
