Nagpur, Dec 28: This Republic Day was different in many ways. But the most striking distinction was unfurling of national tricolour on hundreds of thousands of madarsas and schools all over the country.
And the credit for this spectacular event undoubtedly goes to Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), a social reform movement active amongst the Muslims of India for over one and half decade.
The MRM, it may be recalled, had appealed to all the educational institutions, particularly the madarsas to hoist the National Flag on this Republic Day. This appeal generated a lot of controversy and debate in the media and newspapers. But defying all the negative assessments, lakhs of Muslims participated in flag hoisting functions in the madarsas countrywide, some of them hoisting the tricolour for the first time after independence!
MRM Patron and senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar participated in one such function held at Raipurani madarsa in Panchkula in Haryana where over 500 people were present.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion Indresh Kumar said that the Muslims in India have given a tight slap to the separatists, terrorists and fundamentalists. This proved that India is a peace loving country and there is no place for terrorism, separatism or fundamentalism.
Thanking people for positively responding to the appeal of MRM Indresh Kumar said that hundreds of thousands of madarsas came forward voluntarily to unfurl the triclolour. “This response indicated the defeat of fundamentalism, hatred, terrorism and violence and endorsed the victory of humanity, nationalism and Indianness”, he said.
MRM Organising Convener Girish Juyal also addressed a good number of flag hoisting functions through mobile stating that this underlined the fact that Muslims in India are not lagging behind in honouring the national flag.
National Convener of MRM Mohd Afzal, Co-Convener (Women’s Wing) Shahnaz Afzal, Delhi convener Adv. Yasir Alir Jilani, and hundreds of MRM activists participated in the flag hoisting ceremony in the historic Nizamuddin Dargah. Later they took out a rally and greeted the people on this occasion.
