New Delhi, Jan 5: After the successful experiment of taking the Muslim community with it through the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) that was floated in 2002, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is planning to make inroads into the Christian community.

The response to the December 17-18 meeting last year was indication enough to presuppose the next move of the largest Hindu organisation of India. This meeting was attended by 4-5 archbishops, 40-50 bishops and reverends and lay Christians coming from 10-12 states was addressed by senior RSS leader and mentor and patron of MRM Indresh Kumar besides some Christian leaders.

Addressing the gathering Indresh Kumar said that they are nationalists and humanists. The people in this country shared the same culture, ancestors, languages, castes, etc. Only their ways of worship differed. Amongst the Christians there are numerous sects and sub-sects. Likewise amongst the Muslim and Sanatani Hindus also follow separate ways and modes of worship. But as a nation we are all one and this feeling of oneness needed to be strengthened.

Talking to newsbharati.com on phone, Indresh Kumar said that the initiative for MRM had come from the Muslim community. They felt that they should have good relations with Hindus. We helped them in their endeavour. Similarly, if such an initiative comes from the Christian community, we can help them.

It may be mentioned that the Muslim Rashtriya Manch has earned goodwill and support of the Indian Muslim community on a massive scale due to such efforts and inclusive approach. It also succeeded in bridging the gap between the Hindus and Musmils in India. Similar approach can also bring the Christians and Hindus closer and seek their active contribution in making this country great. With this approach the new exercise would be launched soon.

Earlier this year, Home Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) congregation on the occasion of Christmas and assured them that the government would strive to avoid any injustice to them. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also welcomed the Christian religious leaders and businessmen. Cardinal Oswald Gracious was prominently present on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that during the period of former RSS Sarsanghchalak K S Sudarshan an attempt was made to initiate dialogue with the Christian community. Sudarshan had floated an idea of ‘National or Swadeshi Church’ for the Indian Christian community and that idea was upheld by some Christian leaders and organizations. There had been some rounds of dialogue between the RSS leaders and Christian religious leaders and influential lay Christians. But with the fall of NDA government, that effort lost its initiative.
