New Delhi, October 1: An important meeting discussing the Cauvery River water sharing issue was held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The states are having dispute amongst themselves on the sharing of water since several days.
The meet was primarily organized to resolve the differences, both the states were having with each other. Ministers related to the issue and officials showed presence in the meeting. The meet took into account some important options that could contribute to help resolve the undisputed river matter.
Earlier, Uma Bharti, the Union Water Resources Minister, took the meeting on the issue. However it could not be successful to acquire any solution upon it. Karnataka's proposal of sending an expert committee to the river basin to assess water availability was dismissed by Tamil Nadu.
The issue is in the limelight as Tamil Nadu has been demanding release of its share in the river water which has been rejected by neighbouring Karnataka citing its requirements for drinking and irrigation purposes. It also insisted on putting into action the SC’s decision to release 6,000 cusecs of water in three days. Setting up of Cauvery Management Board is also been demanded by Tamil Nadu.
