Chief Guest Satyaprakash Rai along with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat paying floral tributes at the Samadhi of Golwalkar Guruji at Reshambag.
Nagpur, Oct 12: Blasting the oft-repeated myth about non-participation of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in India’s freedom struggle, Satya Prakash Rai, President of All India Safai Kamgar Sangh vouched that the RSS swayamsevaks participated in the freedom struggle with increased vigor and valor.
Rai was addressing the annual Vijayadashami celebrations of RSS at Reshimbag here on Tuesday. RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohanrao Bhagwat, Western Kshetra Sanghchalak Dr. Jayantibhai Bhadesiya and others were prominently present.
Among the audience, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, Nagpur Mayor Pravin Datke, Rashtra Sevika Samiti Chief Shantakka, singer Anuradha Paudwal, and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari was conspicuous by their presence.
Rai, a former bureaucrat, said that Dr. Hedgewar founded the RSS with the primary objective of freeing the motherland from the clutches of slavery. Strong patriotism, character building and selfless service to the society formed the edifice of the RSS. Every swayamsevak was administered the oath to play his role in freedom struggle.
Citing examples he said that the RSS swayamsevaks participated in protest demonstrations against the Simon Commission in 1928; in 1930 actively supported the Satyagraha under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi; played a major role in 1942 Quit India movement and after independence participated in freeing Goa, and Dadra Nagar-Haveli from the clutches of the Portuguese.
Quoting the late Pt. Banarasi Das Chaturvedi, an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Rai said that he (Chaturvedi) had said on many occasions how the RSS swayamsevkas helped and assisted revolutionaries loke Thakur Roshan Singh, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Chandrasekhar Azad, besides cooperating with Veer Savarkar, and others in Maharashtra. “I have seen how RSS swayasmevaks served mother of Bhagat Singh and elder brother of Ashfaq Ullah Khan in Delhi”, Rai said.
Rai also mentioned the service projects of the RSS and said that the RSS swayamsevaks conduct over 1.5 lakh service projects for the benefit of mainly Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and poor sections of the society rising above the considerations of caste, religion, language, and region. The RSS never aspired for the publicity of these humane activities, Rai said praising the organization for its yeomen approach towards service.
Recalling RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s call for ending social inequality in the villages, Rai noted with pleasure that the RSS has been engaged sincerely in the task of eradication of this inequality and restoring honor and respect to the neglected sections.
He said that he had never experienced any kind of discrimination in the behavior of RSS swayamsevaks. The RSS and its activists are the true followers of Mahatma Gandhi and Babasaheb Ambedkar, he said. He also mentioned how the RSS men were at the forefront in times of distress and natural calamities in Morvi floods, Latur, Uttarkashi earthquakes, Rajasthan drought, floods in Assam, Rail accident in Firozabad and air mishap in Charkhi-Dadri in Haryana.
Saluting the spirit of the selfless service Rai said that even Mahatma Gandhi in 1935 praised the RSS for its important contribution in the national freedom struggle.
Rai explained how Gandhi and Hedgewar were against the practice of untouchability and how they worked towards its complete eradication. Hedgewar did work silently in this direction but his efforts failed to get due publicity and thus could not reach the public domain as compared to Gandhi’s activities, he noted.
He expressed concerned over the prevalence of over 250 types of discrimination in our country even after the independence of seven decades.
Equating safai kamgars with soldiers guarding borders Rai said that as the soldiers protect our borders from the invaders, these safai kamgars protect us from various ailments and diseases by keeping our surrounding clean and tidy. The only difference is soldiers always commanded respect while the safai kamgars were looked down by the society, he added.
Rai lamented that no government, no agency nor any NGO ever directed their attention in developing the condition of these safai kamgars in the country who risk their own lives to save the people. They remain the most exploited, oppressed, neglected and exploited lot of the society, he said.
Showering praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ leadership for initiating revolutionary changes for the development of poor and neglected sections of the society Rai under his leadership the country will scale new heights of progress and prosperity.
He said that untouchability was a curse of the society and all great personalities like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Golwalkar Guruji, and Balasaheb Devras worked relentlessly to end this inhuman tradition. He quoted extensively from the VHP resolution adopted at Udupi session and appealed to the religious leaders to take the initiative in the eradication of this outdated practice.
He appealed to the RSS swaysmvekas to accelerate the speed of their mission to make India strong, vibrant and united and a prosperous country and a world leader.
