Mumbai, October 13: Class left-hand batsman Suresh Raina is ruled out of the first ODI of the Paytm series between India and New Zealand. The lower-middle order Indian batsman is suffering from viral fever due to which he is set to miss the first ODI which is to be held at Dharamsala on October 16.
The news was made public by the BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke. Shirke also informed that there has been no replacement for Raina which implies that he is going to play the 2nd ODI on 20th October at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. The selectors named him in the 15-man squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand.

BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a media advisory said, “The BCCI Medical team has confirmed that Suresh Raina, who is recovering from a bout of viral fever, is ruled out of the first ODI of the Paytm ODI Trophy against New Zealand. There will be no replacement in the team.”

Raina was before compelled to resign mid-path from Uttar Pradesh's first Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh and his team went ahead to surrender the diversion by an innings and 64 runs. The 29-year-old last played an ODI in October 2015 and was subsequently left out of the team owing to poor form.

It was viewed as a decent shot for Raina to script his solid entry since he was picked as a senior part in the group given his capacity with the ball also. The left-hander had prior passed up a great opportunity from the team and wasn't considered for the 2 match T20 mtches against West Indies played in the United States of America.

India had an awesome Test series against the Kiwis in which India not only claimed clean sweep by 3-0 but also topped the ICC Test team rankings. With the kind of form the Indian team has, the ODI series is believed to be a fire cracker one where Kiwis will try to avenge the loss of the Test series.
