New Delhi, October 20: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled to be next year, Senior Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi made her entry on Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday. Party president Amit Shah was also present at the time of announcement.
She addressed the media and officially announced that she quits the party saying, “"Today I have resigned from Congress to join BJP. Developments in recent past have left me numb.” She also took a dig on Congress on the way they reacted at the surgical strike.
In a statement to the media, Joshi said she was hurt by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s Khoon ki dalali’ remark which was targeted towards the surgical strikes. She added,” I have served Congress for 24 years and have taken this decision for the benefit of the nation. How could Congress ask for proof of strikes?”
According to the earlier reports, it was seen that she was not much happy in Congress that and that she was being sidelined by in it. While announcing her joining in BJP, she also appreciated Amit Shah and his way of working. Joshi is MLA from Lucknow Cantonment constituency as of now. She was the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee from 2007 to 2012. She is also the daughter of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, a former Chief Minister of UP.
