Mohali, October 24: Keeping an upper node over the New Zealand, Indian team on Sunday neutralized the visitors in the third ODI with clear intentions. Keeping the target at a high note, Kiwis scored 285 all-out with 2 balls remaining. Replying with a much incredible batting, both format captains Dhoni & Kohli smashed superb score to move team way beyond the victory.
Virat Kohli scored 150 not out to play till the end, while M S played a quick knock of 80 runs to make a easy situation for win. While openers made an easy move out with scores of 13 and 5, one down & two down position for Kohli and Dhoni was enough to clear the match away from the visitors.
After openers Rohit and Rahane made a total score of 18, keeping the match at 42/2, the next 151 runs partnership between the Test and ODI skippers; was enough to take the win in the hosts side. After Dhoni’s dismissal at 192/2, Kohli changed the gear to reach century and then 150+ and fly the match to India’s favour.
Tom Latham 61, Ross Taylor 44, Jimmy Neesham 57 and Matt Henry 39 were among the top scores of Kiwis whoo helped to establish such a bog score. However, after being 199-8, it were the tailenders who played last 10 overs and scored quickly to end at a respectable score for their side.
Indian spinners squeezed the stumps of Kiwi players to send them to the pavilion. Two back to stumping by Dhoni on bowling of Amit Mishra proved to be the turnaround of match. But the match was put in a balanced way by Kiwi bowlers at the lower order.
However, this was not enough against the high class Indian batsmen. Who easily became the eventual winners to pull the series score to 2-1. Now India seeks to win the rest two matches to lift the ODI rankings. India will play two matches on 26 and 29 October.
