Singapore, October 29: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis entered the semi-finals of the WTA Finals Singapore beating Taiwanese combination of Hao-Ching Chan and Yung Jan Chan on Thursday. This was the pair’s first competition after their reunion following an early exit at Montreal in July.
Sania Mirza on their achievement said, "It's great to be back in Singapore, it's also great to be back with Martina, and it's good to get that win."
"Our bond is what made us so strong, to win those tough points in the past," Hingis said. "No matter how you play, or what's happening on the court, you have to work through the tough moments and get the momentum going. It's been two months since we were last on court together, and it was great to be back out there with Sania," added Hingis.
Both teams held their service game till they reach 5 games all making the game more difficult. While Sania and Hingis were broken in the 11 game of the first set, they fought back in the very next game making the first set a tie-breaker.
The tie-breaker was a hard fought one as the Indo-Swiss pair saved three set points. They dropped a couple of set points before converting the third to clinch the set within an hour. The second set was also fought on with even base till the 10th game.Post 10th game Sania-Hingis secured a crucial break and then held their serve to book a place in the last four.
The Indo-Swiss pair, popularly known as ‘Team Sartina’ will be playing against the winner of the match between top seeds Caroline Garcia-Kristina Mladenovic and Bethanie Mattek-Sands- Lucie Safarova.
