Ahmadabad, October 8: Kabaddi world cup 2016 started on a disappointing mode for India when the lost the opening match to South Korea by a margin of 2 points. The leadership of Anup kumar was not sufficient against the Koreans as they lost the match at the end by 34-32 in spite of 8 points lead at half-time.
Despite leading by 8 points at one stage, India capitulated at the end to lose their second match ever in the history of the sport. Their first loss had come over 23 years ago at the 1993 South Asian Federation Games final against Pakistan.
The top scorer in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) was one of the biggest disappointments in the opening encounter. The man from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, went in to raid 9 times and returned successfully only twice. He spent around 15 minutes on the bench and managed a paltry return of just 3 points, which added more pressure to the shoulders of Captain Anup Kumar.
Much was expected from the Telugu Titans captain, who was preferred in the starting lineup over teenage sensation Pardeep Narwal. However, the boisterous raider failed miserably and will, rightly so, get the most of the blame, something he will have to take on the chin. South Korea has beaten India to cause a huge upset.
A super raid consisting of two raid points and one bonus points by Chan Kun Lee at the ending two minutes proved to be turning point of the match. That gave Koreans one point lead which eventually ended as a two point lead over the Indians.
“This is shocking. Really shocking!!! What a performance from South Korea. They have come back from the dead to win this”, quoted the commentator on the surprising win by Koreans. Meanwhile, in the other match, Iran team defeated the US team by 52-15.
