Mumbai, November 20: Regardless of the criticism these days over the demonetization drive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Global Citizen Festival with a positive spirit on Saturday in Mumbai. Modi addressed thousands of people gathered for the event in suburban Bandra Kurla complex through video-conference. International stars and bands performed at the concert.
Modi appreciating the presence of the youth said, “I see you are having a good time. I know that I stand between you and Cold Play and so will make this brief. I always look forward to being among young people. It refreshes and re-energizes me. You bring an Energy and Idealism that is unparalleled.”Embeded ObjectHe also expressed his humor referring to the effects of government's recent decision of demotizing the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes saying, “Thank you guys for having me over. You have been smart in asking me to only address the gathering, and not sing. Else, I am pretty sure your audience would be asking you for their money back. And that too in 100 rupee notes.”Embeded ObjectHe also expressed his regret over not being able to attend the concert due to his busy schedule. Talking about poverty he said, “Poverty is a curse to human society, Malnutrition, unemployment, corruption and un-cleanliness affect the poor the most, so we aims to empower the poor.”

Referring to the recent progress in cleanliness drive and public support to the drive Modi said, “My dear young friends, on the whole, I am convinced that we can, and we will build a Swachh Bharat, free of all forms of filth within one generation. I also know that we will surely do so, the moment you decide to do so. Hence, I am deeply grateful for your walking shoulder to shoulder with me in this Cleanliness drive, and look forward to your continuing to do the same.”Embeded ObjectThe concert officially begun with performances by Amitabh Bachchan, American pop star Demi Lovato, Arijit Singh, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sonakshi Sinha, Shraddha Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar. Global Citizen Festival 2016 of India is much awaited concert amongst the youth. With international performers like Global Citizen Festival, Vamps and Demi Lovato the festival was surely a power packed one.
