Karachi, November 21: 43 Indian fishermen were detained by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (MSA) over violating Pakistan’s territorial sea limits on Sunday. The fishermen were caught fishing in Sir Creek, a disputed area on the maritime border of Sindh and the Indian state of Gujarat quoted a statement by MSA.
Fishermen are in custody of the local police for further legal procedures. "The Indian fishermen were illegally fishing in the territorial limits of Pakistan," said Amin Marri, Station House Officer of Docks police station.
A case under the Foreigner's Act and the Fisheries Act is registered on them and they will be presented in the court on Monday. Edhi Foundation has been providing food to the arrested fishermen.
This is not the first time that Pakistani authorities have arrested Indian fishermen claiming violation of sea limits. Few months back Maritime Security Agency arrested 59 Indian fishermen and seized 10 fishing boats for violating the Pakistan’s maritime borders.
The frequency of such arrests has increased due to lack of technology used in fishing boats to be sure about the specific location.
