New Delhi, Nov 21: The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the largest labour organisation, on Friday demanded from the government that the income tax should be done away with from the next financial year.
BMS General Secretary Brajesh Upadhyay said that the Union Finance Ministry Arun Jaitley has called a meeting to seek suggestions for the 2017 budget. He added that during that meeting, the BMS would propose to the government to do away with the income tax.
“The Prime Minister repeatedly said during his election campaign that he will do away with the income tax. Now that Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been passed, there is no need to collect income tax. So, it should be scrapped from the next financial year,” the BMS said in a statement.
The statement added that the government's decision to increase minimum wages from Rs 102 per day to Rs 350 per day should be implemented across the nation.
