Guwahati, Nov 22: Addressing the grievances of small tea worker regarding weekly wages after the demonetization decision of central government Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked bank officials speed up the opening of bank accounts for small tea worker.

In a high level meeting, attended by top bank officials and representatives of tea associations Sonowal said, “Tea workers should not face any inconvenience in getting their wages on time.” In reply to this banking authorities have given assurance about the completion of process till December 5.

He advised bank authorities to ensure bank accounts for each and every tea worker in the state in order to facilitate disbursal of their weekly wages through these accounts within a fixed time-frame.

He further added that, bank officials to develop better ecosystem for tea worker to avoid inconvenience due to non-availability of adequate fund for payment of wages.

Taking stock of current position of ATMs in tea garden area Sonowal directed bank authorities to ensure sufficient number of ATMs for hassle-free transactions. Stressing on the need of financial literacy among tea workers he urged bankers to arrange literacy programmes in more intensive manner.
