New Delhi, November 29: Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with an eight-member Indian delegation comprising representatives of different political parties has left for Cuba to attend the pre-funeral commemoration of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.
Rajnath took to twitter saying, “Leaving New Delhi for Havana. Shall attend the funeral of towering Cuban leader Fidel Castro with the Indian delegation & pay tributes to him.”
After two days of tribute in Havana, Castro’s ashes will be taken on a four-day island-wide procession which will begin on Wednesday before being buried in the southeastern city of Santiago de Cuba on December 4.Representatives of different political parties like Congress, CPI (M), CPI and Samajwadi Party are included in the delegation. The team is expected to return on Thursday. This composition was worked out by the Prime Minister’s Office in consultation with the Ministries of External Affairs.
Castro, 90, died on November 25, handed over the power to his brother Raul Castro. Castro’s 1959 revolution toppled a dictatorship with the promise of bringing justice and equality to his Caribbean island, was a major 20th century figure.
