Mohali, November 29: Leading the series by 2-0, India defeated England in the second Test match by eight wickets on Tuesday. India successfully achieved the target of 104 set by England on the fourth day of the match with loss of just two wickets.
The victory shot was played by wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel who scored 67 not out sharing the pitch with Virat Kohli at 6*. Murali Vijay (0) and Cheteshwar Pujara (25) got out while chasing the target and lost their wickets to Adil Rashid and Chris Voakes respectively.
England scored 283 runs in the first innings after winning the toss and opting to win. In reply, Indian team made 417 runs with the skipper Virat Kohli’s 62 runs and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 51 runs. India were at a poor condition hoping to not even cover the lead but amazing batting by lower middle batsmen moved the ball in India’s court. Ashwin played an innings of 72 runs along with Ravindra Jadeja who made 90. Also, Jayant Yadav made 55 runs which enabled India to take a lead of 134 runs over the England. Afterwards England made 236 runs in the second innings in the second day. R Ashwin gave the break to India with capturing opening wickets. He send back skipper Alaistair Cook (12) and Moeen Ali (5) to pavilion. Ashwin took a total of 3 wickets while Mohammad Shami, Jayant Yadav and Jadeja took three wickets each.
India had won the last Test match at Vishakhapatnam by 246 runs while the first Test match was drawn. The third match of the five match Test series will start on 8th December at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
