Bengaluru, December 13: Pankaj Advani won his 16th World title in Bengaluru defeating Peter Gilchrist in the Points Format of the IBSF World Billiards Championship at the Karnataka State Billiards Association on Monday. Advani beat multiple world champion Gilchrist by six games to three in a gripping final contest to wrap up his 16th world title overall.
"This is a title that I needed badly. It feels special that it came at home," said Advani.
After having lost to Sourav in the quarters of Long-Up format of the tournament, Advani was determined to push his way into semi-finals of 150-Up format. He pocketed the first three games and then conceded the next two before bagging the next two games, to send Dhruv packing home.
The first three games, Advani won by a huge margin of 150-0, 150-0 and 150-5, as he decimated the hopes of Dhruv at initial stages of the match.
Dhruv registered 150-89 and 150-107 wins, with breaks of 70 and 151 in the fourth and fifth games. However, Advani clinched the match 150-69 and 150-128 in sixth and seventh games.
After defeating Myanmar's Aung Htay in the semifinals in the morning, Advani scripted a convincing victory over his Singapore-based British opponent. The Indian champion beat Gilchrist 151 (98)-33, 150 (97)-95, 124-150, 101 (98)-150 (89), 150 (87)-50, 152-37, 86 (86)-150, 151 (110)-104, 150 (88)-15.
Advani posted his only century break of 110 in the eighth game of the match, which almost dashed the hopes of Gilchrist to win the title as he trailed 3-5 against the Indian cueist.
