New Delhi, Dec 15: Going a step further in checkmating China, India intensified its diplomatic offensive against the Dragon by supporting Indonesia on its South China dispute with China.
India signed a joint declaration on maritime cooperation with Indonesia. Indonesia is perhaps, the only other country with which India has signed such a declaration in the recent past.
China has been opposing India’s entry into the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). It has also blocked Indian efforts to declare Hafeez Saeed as a terrorist by the United Nations. With this latest move, India has given a hardened response to China.
Earlier in October, India has allowed US Envoy Richard Verma to visit Arunachal Pradesh-the India territory China laying its claim on. Ignoring Chinese protests, India cleared the visit of Tibetan Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh in March next year.
Last week India has supported Mongolia after China imposed a toll tax on commercial vehicles passing between the two countries against the background of Dalai Lama’s visit to Mongolia. MEA Spokesman Vikas Swarup said that India was ready to help Mongolia as the new tax put burden on the country’s economy.
