Uttarkashi, Dec 19 : Taking a bold step to revive the  river ganga Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said that central government won't  allow the construction of  big dams like tehri to maintain the ecology and natural form of rivers.

Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of a hospital in Maneri. Assuring about the release of  river Bhagirathi Bharti said that a team of experts is working on releasing a stream of the river which is trapped due to tehri dam. She further asked people working in different walks of life to give  suggestions  on this prevalent and sensitive issue.

Citing an incident from the past bharti said that tehri dam project had received a green signal only after VHP leader Ashok Singhal was given an assurance that a stream of the river would be released from Dharasu to Devprayag.

Expressing her anguish about the present condition of river bhagirathi  Bharti  said that, river has lost its natural form due to the construction of the dam. She further added that, central government is working on the Ganga cleanliness drive and if a natural stream of Ganga is not released, it would be a betrayal for the Hindu society.
