New Delhi, Dec 21: The Swadeshi Jagarana Manch (SJM) which once headed a renewed swadeshi movement in the wake of Dunkel Draft and WTO regime, has now decided to review the functioning of the NITI Ayog.
The SJM is planning to hold a seminar on January 10 next year, to review the two years of NITI Ayog’s functioning. The SJM has vehemently opposed the genetically modified (GM) crops in India.
According to Ashwini Mahajan, convener of SJM, the seminar would focus on the comprehensive review of the working of NITI Ayog, its policies and future role in the development of the country.
Mahajan said that the NITI Ayog was set up replacing the Planning Commission as a think tank for the government. It was supposed to take inputs from the ground and help the government formulate policy. The seminar will discuss this aspect also, he said.
Senior BJP leaders like Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Yashwant Sinha, Shanta Kumar will be speaking at the seminar. All the three were ministers in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
Apart from the former Ministers, economists like Rajiv Kumar and Abhijeet Sen have been invited to the seminar.
The SJM also plans to invite NITI Ayog Chairman Dr Arvind Panagariya and member Bibek Debroy for this seminar.
