New Delhi, Dec 26 : Taking a serious note on the prevailing unrest in the State of Manipur a group of Journalists met Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr Jitendra Singh to discuss the law and order condition of the state .
Under the banner of “All Manipur Working Journalists’ a delegation of Journalists led by President Wangkhemcha Shamjai called on union minister. Expressing deep concern over the recent socio-political development in the state journalists have submitted a memorandum about the ongoing economic blockade imposed the United Naga Council on State’s National Highways.
Briefing about the ground zero situation the delegation conveyed their difficulties directly related to Media functioning which resulted into acute shortage of newsprint and other related material like printing plates. They further added that the movement of reporters to collect news has got hampered due to fuel shortage.
Dragging the central government’s attention towards this burning issues the delegation has requested for immediate intervention to streamline the condition in the region.
The Manipur journalists have demanded for the appropriate financial assistance for constructing Press Housing Colony in Imphal and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting giving PIB accreditation to the individual journalists.
Assuring the delegation for speedy action in this matter Dr Jitendra Singh said that center will certainly give due consideration to all the inputs received from media fraternity and would also take up the issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs and other concerned agencies.
