New Delhi, Dec 28: After the sudden resignation of Najib Jung central government has appointed former home secretary Anil Baijal for the top job of Lt Governor of Delhi. He will be sworn-in on December 30.
A 1969 batch 70-year-old Baijal, had retired from service in 2006 as Secretary, Urban Development Ministry. He had served as Union Home Secretary under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and also held several key positions in other ministries. He is a former vice chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDCA).
On his appointment External affairs minister Sushma swaraj congratulated Baijal on twitter
An executive council member of the think-tank Vivekananda International Foundation, Baijal was first brought in by the then home minister Advani to clean up the Delhi Development Authority and later picked as home secretary.
He had seminal contribution to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) during UPA government.
