Chennai, December 29: Sasikala Natarajan, close aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has been elected as the AIADMK General Secretary in a party meeting in Chennai today. Sasikala Natarajan will be the new general secretary of AIADMK.
The party passed set of resolutions in the presence of chief minister O Paneerselvam and other top leaders that allows Sasikala Natarajan aka Chinnamma to lead the party post Amma's death and also be the new general secretary of the party for the time being. The General Council met at Vanagaram on the outskirts of Chennai on Thursday morning.
“Sasikala has the support of the party, and is capable of leading us by the example Amma set,” said an AIADMK leader. “Of course, she will become our next general secretary.”
The resolution read "Until Ms. Sasikala is elected under the party's by-law no.20, section.2, she has been unanimously appointed as General Secretary”. "Ms. Sasikala will have all powers vested with the General Secretary", the resolution said.
The meeting was held by party Presidium Chairman E. Madhusudhanan. Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, and other senior leaders,who took part in the meeting. This is the first general council meet after the death of Jayalalithaa.
Senior leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, have backed Ms. Sasikala for the post. All district and lower level party units and various mass organisations affiliated to the AIADMK have urged her to become the general secretary.
