Allahabad, Dec 7: The Allahabad High Court Wednesday dismissed the petition challenging the 2014 Lok Sabha election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi Parliamentary constituency.
A single bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath allowed the preliminary objection raised by PM Modi’s lawyer and rejected the petition of Ajay Rai, the Congress MLA, who had lost the 2014 election against Modi.
“No material has been placed on record to make the petition triable,” the judge said.
The Allahabad High Court reckoned the view that the petition was “half- hearted” and termed as “vague and bald statements, based on media reports” the allegations by Ajay Rai about the expenditure on PM Modi’s campaign being far in excess of permissible limits.
BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav welcomed the Allahabad High Court order on Modi's election. In a twitter message, he said, "Allahabad High Court today dismissed Election Petition challenging Sh Narendra Modi Ji's Election to Lok Sabha in 2014 from Varanasi".
