Nagpur, Dec 9: The Rashtra Sevika Samiti, a national women’s organisation, has welcomed the Allahabad High Court decision on triple talaq issue and said that it would help restore the honour and safety of hundreds of affected Muslim women.
It may be mentioned that the Allahabad High Court had on Thursday categorically ruled against the practice of triple talaq. The HC had said that such a practice was unconstitutional and inhuman. The court has also observed that no personal law board was above constitution.
Triple talaq refers to a Muslim men's Islamic right to divorce his wife by a mere unequivocal statement of the word ‘talaq’, repeated thrice in one go. A number of Muslim women and organisations have moved various courts across India challenging the validity of ‘triple talaq’.The matter is pending in the Supreme Court.
In a statement issued here Rashtra Sevika Samiti’s Pramukh Karyawahika Annadanam Seetha Gayatri welcomed the decision of the High Court. She said that this move will help protect the human rights of the Muslim women.
The Samiti in its all-India executive committee meeting held in July 2016 passed a resolution on “common civil rights”. The High Court decision was a step in this direction, she said.
Seetha Gayatri demanded that this decision should be brought into force with immediate effect to guarantee safety and honour to many affected sisters.
