Manipur, February 12: The world champion boxer Mary Kom took her social media as a platform to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for suggesting adding 5% or at least 2% real fruit juice to all the aerated drink giants to benefit farmers. The smart initiative thought was taken seriously by one of the drink giants Manpasand drinks and they become the first company to add fruit content in their drink range.
Mary said, “As few days back PM Modi had suggested that if 5% of fruit juice is added to carbonated drinks then our farmers will be highly benefited. We should be proud that his words are taken into action by Manpasand drink.”
They have developed a carbonated drink with fruit juice content and will be presented at the Make in India week which is going to be held in Mumbai, Bandra Kurla Complex”. She added.
Speaking at the conference of start-up businesses, PM Modi had suggested the idea to top officials of leading aerated drinks companies who visited him recently. "Why can't 2 per cent natural juice be mixed in aerated drinks? This will provide farmers a market for their produce," he explained.
The possibility of blending cold carbonated drinks, which are widely considered not healthy, with natural fruit juice is also being looked into.
According to a recent report by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, consumption of non-alcoholic beverages is expected to increase by 16.5-19 per cent over the next three years in the country.
