Nagaur (Rajasthan), Mar 11: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) registered an increase of 5,500 shakhas in the last one year, informed Sah-Sarkaryawah Dr Krishna Gopal here today.
Briefing newsmen at the venue of the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) which began here from Friday morning, Dr Krishna Gopal accompanied by RSS Prachar Pramukh Dr Manmohan Vaidya said that there was an addition of 5524 daily shakhas and 925 weekly milans in the past one year.
He said that in 2012 there were 40922 shakhas which had increased to 51335 in 2015. In the past three years the increase was 10413 but in the single year in 2016 the number of shakhas went up by 5524, taking the total number of shakhas to 56859, he added. He further added that out of the 840 districts the RSS has its presence in 820 and 90 blocks.
In reply to a question Dr Krishna Gopal said that the maximum number of shakhas is in rural areas. Out of the 2594 towns the RSS has its network in 2406. The number of swayamsevaks who attended the summer training camps last year was 1,37,351.
He said that the ABPS would deliberate on resolutions related to education, health and social harmony and would adopt them with unanimity. He said that over 1300 representatives belonging to various cross sections of the society representing professions like doctors, teachers, engineers, professors, workers, farmers, lawyers and women are attending the three-day mega event of the Sangh.
He said that this year is of special significance to Sangh and Bharat as it will be celebrating 1000th anniversary of Ramanujacharya, 125th anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, centenary year of third RSS chief Balasaheb Devras and Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya. All these great sons of mother Bharat have toiled hard for achieving social harmony and equality. Therefore, this year will be observed as social harmony year.
Expressing concern over social discrimination he said that even today social ills like differences based on caste, sect, colour and birth still existed. This should be stopped forthwith, he added.
The ABPS is being attended by all the top RSS office-bearers, VHP Organizing Secretary Dinesh Chandra, National President Champat Rai, Executive President Dr Pravin Togadia, BJP President Amit Shah, Organising Secretary Ram Lal, Ram Madhav, Shiv Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Orgaising Secretary of Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh, Dinesh Kulkarni and Prabhakar Kelkar from BKS, Kashmiri Lal, Dr Bhagwati Prasad of SJM, V Surendran from BMS, Somaiya Julu, Atul Jog, Surendra Suri from Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Sunil Ambekar, K Raghunandan, Shriniwas, Dr Kailash Sharma and Milind Marathe of ABVP, Prakash Chandra of Laghu Udyog Bharti, besides representatives of Vidya Bharati, Seema Jan Kalyan Samiti, Sewa Bharati, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Sahkar Bharati, Itihas Sankalan Samiti, Pragya Prawah, Arogya Bharati, Vigyan Bharati, Krida Bharati, and Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal are participating in this annual mega event.
The meeting was formally inaugurated by Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohanrao Bhagwat and Sarkaryawah Sureash alias Bhayyaji Joshi by offering flowers to the portrait of Bharat Mata.
At the outset rich tributes were paid to former VHP Patron Ashok Singhal, former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma and all those pious souls who served the nation and society and departed to heavenly abode in the year bygone.
