Parsi community embark zoroastrian new year 'Navroz' today

Mumbai, March 21: The Parsi community with great pomp and enthusiasm mark their New year today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the nation on the occasion of Parsi zoroastrian new year 'Navroz'. In a tweet message, he wished that this auspicious day bring peace & prosperity, and deepen the spirit of harmony in society.  
Nowruz is the day of the vernal equinox, and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It usually occurs on March 21 or the previous and following day, depending on where it is observed.  

The moment the sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year, and Persian families gather together to perform their rituals.

The festival illustrates the principle of change inherent in all material existence. It also conveys the message that human life is closely interwoven with the cycle of happiness, joy, success and failure.

Although having Persian and religious a Zoroastrian origin, Nowruz has been celebrated by people from diverse ethno-linguistic communities for thousands of years. It is a secular holiday for most celebrants that is enjoyed by people of several different faiths, but remains a holy day for Zoroastrians.
