Itanagar, March 31: For all round development of the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ram Kripal Yadav released an additional fund of Rs. 8.71 Crore to Arunachal Pradesh under the National Rural Drinking Water Project (NRDWP) saying that the Centre is committed for the development of North East at par with rest of the country.
Yadav, on a visit to Arunachal Pradesh to take stock of drinking water and sanitation projects, said he had come as per the directive given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has attached top priority for the development of the North East.
Expressing concern over the slow implementation of projects under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he said many people are still ignorant about the central scheme under which Rs. 12000 is being given to every household for constructing latrines in 90:10 ratio referring to the drinking water sector in the state, Yadav said that much is needed to be done to provide drinking water to the people and the NDA government is committed to provide 70 litres water per person per day throughout the country by 2022 adding that solid waste management is a major component of the Swacch Bharat Andolan and the state government should stress more on solid waste management to make it successful.
Also, in a major move, the Arunachal Pradesh State Government gave away cash incentives of Rs. 1 crore to meritorious sportspersons of the State in a function at the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar. Under the state’s Sport Policy, cash incentives were distributed for 12 disciplines of including archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, judo, karate, taekwondo, lawn tennis, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and bocce for physically challenged.
Assuring full support of the state government towards sports and youth affairs in terms of developing infrastructure, creating manpower and technical assistance, Pul directed the concern officials to fix a particular time for the events and emphasized on the importance of academic careers of the sportspersons adding that devoting time to their respective academic career can further enhance their understanding of sports rules and regulation.
The 165 sports persons of the state had collectively won a staggering total of 257 medals from 2011 to 2015 under various disciplines in international, national and regional sports events. The 257 medals include 80 gold medals, 67 silver and 110 bronze medals.
