New Delhi, May 29: The government to sell off the state- ITDC run hotels except Ashoka and Samrat in the National capital. The process to privatise them has started off, said the minister of Tourism and Culture, Mahesh Sharma today.
14 ITDC run hotels out of 16 are now under process of being privatised. This privatisation is done to offload the stakes in these hotels. The government has taken this decision to improve the financial health of the public sector, India Tourism Deveopment Sector (ITDC). It consists of 16 hotels out of which two will still be under this public sector. These hotels are in Delhi, Patna, Jammu, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Puri, Bhopal, Bharatpur, Jaipur, Guwahati, Mysore, Puducherry and Itanagar.
"The process to privatise the 14 hotels has already been started. There are certain issues with the states and we are trying to address them”, told Mahesh Sharma to PTI.
A cabinet note will be moved soon on strategic disinvestment of ITDC hotels. It is a three way plan which is proposed. It includes omplete outsourcing through Operation and Maintenance contract; long-term lease; and complete disinvestment. The Ashok however, will be revived within a year by the government.
