13 killed due to heavy rains in China’s Jiangxi Province; loss of USD 22.8 millions reported

Beijing, June 16: In China, 13 people are lost their lives and 13 people went missing due to the heavy rains caused in East China’s Jiangxi Province, south China's Hunan, Guizhou, Guangdong provinces and Guangxi Zhuang areas. These were caused due to flash floods, landslides and heavy rains.
The rain made heavy damages which destroyed 754 houses and damaged 408 houses. The crops spread on 20,200 hectares also were ruined.  The evacuation took place of 5,900 people. The country also faced an economic loss of 22.8 million US dollars.

After the rain pounded the country from Tuesday night to Wednesday, 202 millimeters of precipitation is recorded in some areas. Traffic, power and telecommunications were all disrupted along with the destruction of the houses.

According to the reports, a reservoir with capacity of more than 70,000 cubic meters in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, leaking on Wednesday morning. Till late in the evening, workers were at the site, trying to bring the situation under control. More than 1,400 people living downstream have been evacuated, Nearly 300 rescuers are searching for the missing around the mountain, which experienced heavy torrential rain reported the local flood control office.
