New Delhi, June 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President of Sri Lanka Maitripala Sirisena in Jaffna on Saturday morning to the newly Duriappa Stadium is dedicated to the people of Sri Lanka. President Sirisena present in the stadium at the Jaffna district, while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the inaugural ceremony through video Conferencing.
Indian Government sponsored Rs 7 Crore and heped Sri Lanka Government for the renovation of Duraiappa stadium. Stadium is named after the death of former mayor of Jaffna, to honor late Alfred Thumbrija Duraiappa.
This newly constructed Stadium has the seating capacity of 1850 people. This Stadium will be helping to promote sports and other cultural activities and entertainment, at the same time it will provide basic infrastructure to the people. Stadium will definitely support youths and provide all the aminities related to any sports. Thestadium was not in use since 1997.
