Odisha, June 04: Heavy pre-monsoon showers lashed Odisha causing water-logging in Bhubaneswar. The capital city received a record 60 mm rainfall in about an hour on Friday, which brought normal life and traffic movement across the city to a standstill. Quoting regional met offices sources, reports are that an upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining parts of the State caused heavy showers.
Rains and strong winds have been lashing Odisha since last week due to deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. The regional MeT office said there is probability of more rainfall in the next 24 hours as monsoon current from the Bay of Bengal is advancing. . Similar weather conditions on Wednesday accompanied by lightning claimed at least 17 lives.
With the monsoon drawing close, the Odisha government on Friday, took stock of the preparedness for the season in the event of a flood and asked the district administration to start stocking essential commodities like food and communication equipment. Meanwhile, western parts of the State witnessed extreme heat with day temperature in Bhawanipatna recorded 45 degree Celsius on Friday.
