Amritsar, July 18: In a move to woo Punjab voters to support Aam Aadmi Party in the upcoming assembly elections, Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal performed services at the Golden temple of Amritsar on Monday.

Before the onset of poll season, Arvind Kejriwal reached sacred temple in Amritsar to perform ‘Sewa’ so that he can undo the ‘mistakes’ done in his party’s youth manifesto where it was compared with Guru Granth Sahib . Even his party’s symbol ‘Broom’ was posted along with picture of Golden Temple which didn’t go really well with people of Punjab.

After getting caught in controversies by releasing image of Golden temple along with party symbol ‘broom’ in the manifesto, Kejriwal called his services as an atonement for the committed faults. Kejriwal went around the shrine complex, offered prayers and later cleaned utensils at the ‘Langar hall’ or the community kitchen which serves food to over one lakh people in a single day.

"I had come here to offer voluntary service to apologise for the unintentional mistake committed in our youth manifesto... I have peace of mind now," he said. Kejriwal was accompanied by H.S Fulka, Ashish Khetan, Gul Panag, Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Guggi.

People of Punjab staged heavy protests after the Youth manifesto of AAP showcased image of religious shrine of Golden temple along with broom. This action was criticized by many organizations and political parties too.

AAP leader Ashish Khaitan had compared Sikh religious book ‘Guru Granth Sahiba’ with that of youth manifesto. This is our bible, our Gita and our Guru Granth Sahib," Khetan had said while unveiling the 51-point manifesto at an event. The AAP chief was at the temple for about 45 minutes.
