Brasilia, July 24: After the Brazil police arrested ten suspects recently for plotting attack in Rio during Olympics, the Brazil authorities have once again arrested a suspect belonging to a group that allegedly discussed carrying out attacks.
The man was arrested on Friday night in the central-western state of Mato Grosso, informed Brazilian Federal Police Department in a brief statement posted on its website. 10 Brazilians who police said had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and discussed on social media the possibility of staging attacks during next month's Games, announced Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The Brazilian police were already on the trace of two additional suspects. This suspect is said to be one of those two. The police investigated the computers and cell phones of the suspects caught earlier. The group was inspired by ISIS and mostly organized online. The group members were all Brazilian citizens and in contact via internet messaging groups such as WhatsApp and Telegram, informed Moraes.
All 12 are Brazilian and one is a minor. However no information was stated regarding the gender of the suspects. The suspects were arrested from 10 different states out of which were Sao Paulo and Parana. The attackers chose Rio as their target as due to upcoming Olympics, many foreigners would visit the place, thus making them the target.
