Ghotki, July 28: Two Hindu men were shot when they were having tea at a stall in Ghotki's town of Mirpur Mathelo by two armed men on wednesday when a group of people were protesting against a Hindu man who burnt the pages of Quran. One of the victims, 17-year-old Dewan Sateesh Kumar, died due to his injuries while his friend Avinash is in a critical condition and referred to hospital in Rahim Yar Khan of Punjab for treatment of his critical wounds.
Due to which communal tension ran high in Sindh’s Ghotki district. The Hindu community residing in nearby areas asked for the security and had a peace movement against Pakistan government and said they are not safe enough.
According to sources, two armed men involved in protest suddenly started firing on this two Hindu men. The attack left the pair seriously injured and during they were transported to nearby civil hospital kumar died. Locals said that the fatal attack was part of a backlash against an alleged act of blasphemy committed by a Hindu man in nearby Daharki on Tuesday. Notably, SSP Ghotki Masood Bangash claimed the attack was triggered by personal enmity and was not linked to the blasphemy incident.
Meanwhile, due to tension of communal riots most of the markets belonging to the Hindu community remained closed, whereas shops owned by Muslims were open. However on Monday, a Hindu man named Amar Lal, converted in Muslim and was residing in a Mosque of Mehran Samejo near Daharki was arrested by police in case of desecrating pages of the Quran. Locals said that he was a drug addict and he is mentally ill.
After this incident, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party immediately asked Sindh Government to take necessary actions against culprits and maintain law and order in particular areas. He also asked government to take care of Hindu community residing in Sindh and also asked to maintain peace. Bilawal also instructed PPP MNA Ramesh Lal to visit Kumar’s family and offer his condolences.
