New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended commemorative event to mark the 300th Martyrdom Anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadurji in New Delhi on Sunday. During the occasion, PM Modi released a book and souvenir on Baba Banda Singh Bahadurji. The event was attended by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal. Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana and some Union Ministers among others attended the event.
A recently released commemorative coin on Baba Banda Singh Bahadurji was also presented to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab. The event saw various cultural programs and feature poetic tributes to Baba Banda Singh Bahadurji.
While addressing the rally, Modi recalled the sacrifices of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur saying he will remain the source of inspiration for generations to come. Modi also said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was not just a great warrior but also very sensitive towards common people and committed to democracy.
Modi said during his rule poor people and minorities felt secure and his every decision was aimed at development. The Prime Minister added that after getting inspiration from Guru Gobind Singh, Banda Bahadur embarked on a new journey for social development. Banda Bahadur had established his rule to protect the honour and traditions of his people by defeating the Mughals in 1710. Later in 1716, at the age of 46 he was captured and executed by the Mughals in Delhi.
