New Delhi, July 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed his tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Jan Sangh founder on his 115th birth anniversary.
At the age of 33, he became the world's youngest Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University and held the office till 1938. During his tenure, he introduced a number of constructive reforms and was active in Asiatic Society of Calcutta as well as was a member of the Court and the Council of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Chairman of the Inter-University of Board.
He also served as a cabinet minister under then-prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, before quitting the Congress party and founding the Jan Sangh. He was also India’s first industry minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took social media to express his feelings about him saying that on his birth anniversary his tributes were with Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He also added that they remember with pride his rich contribution towards India's history.
