New Delhi, Aug 11 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is schedule to visit India’s strategic south east Asian partner Vietnam in the month of September.
“Prime Minister Modi will stop over in Hanoi for bilateral talks and the visit is taking place after 15 years, coinciding with 10 years of ‘Strategic Partnership’ between the two countries.” Said Ton Sinh Thanh, the Vietnamese ambassador to India,
"We expect that Prime Minister Modi's visit will be soon. It will open a new page in bilateral relationship. We hope the visit will upgrade ties to a more comprehensive level. Preparation for the visit is going on," he said during a media interaction at the Foreign Correspondents Club.
The Vietnamese envoy said that the two countries were gearing up to celebrate milestones in the form of 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 10 years of the establishment of strategic partnership.
This will be the first prime ministerial visit from India to the Southeast Asian nation in 15 years after the visit of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001.
PM Modi’s visit to Vietnam will take place just weeks after the two countries discussed key issues including security cooperation during their fifth Strategic Dialogue held in New Delhi. Vietnam has welcomed India’s stand on the ruling of an international tribunal on the South China Sea (SCS) dispute.
