New Delhi, August 22: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old JNU student has filed a rape case against an activist of All India Students’ Association [AISA] accusing him of raping her in a hostel room on the university campus, police said on Sunday.

The woman is a first-year PhD student and she has alleged that Anmol Ratan, a JNU student and AISA activist raped her on Saturday, police said.

Ratan is an activist of All India Students' Association which is a Left-wing student organization active in JNU. It is the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation. The JNU campus has been in limelight after its students got involved in anti-India slogan like "Azadi" from India and the agitation will remain till 'Barbadi' of India in which many such students activists were involved.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-I (South) Nupur Prasad said that on Sunday, the victim approached the police and stated that she had been raped by one Anmol Ratan, a student of JNU and an AISA activist. The victim is in the first year of her Ph.D.

According to the complaint filed by her at Vasant Kunj (North) police station, she had posted on her Facebook profile that she wanted to watch Sairat movie and asked if anyone had a CD of it.

It said Ratan apparently messaged her saying that he had a copy. Thereafter, he picked her up on Saturday on the pretext of giving her a CD of the film and took her to Brahamputra Hostel, where he stays.

She said in the complaint that he offered her a spiked drink and allegedly raped her. He also threatened her and asked her to not report the matter.

However, the woman approached the police on Sunday and a case of rape was registered and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the AISA has announced that it has 'expelled' Ratan.
