Gandhinagar, Aug 23 : The Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday passed the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Constitution Amendment Bill. Gujarat is a sixth state to pass this bill. The Gujarat government had convened a two day special session of assembly to ratify the GST bill.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that with this amended GST Bill, Gujarat will have the authority to collect taxes on transactions other than purchase or sale within the State.
This will also authorise the State to collect taxes on various kinds of supplies. The share of services in the country’s GDP is 50 per cent and the same is ever increasing. This will provide the States to collect taxes from this vast sector,’’ Patel said
During the session of assembly congress member were protesting on the issue of dalit atrocities and Patidar agitation . Speaker Raman Vora had suspended 44 MLAs of the Opposition Congress before the introduction of the GST Bill in the House for causing ruckus over Dalit atrocities issue in the State. Congress leader Shankar singh vaghela was leading the protest of congress party in the premises of Gujarat assembly.
The Goods and Sevices Tax (GST) was passed by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha earlier in August. Earlier states like Chhattisgarh, Himachal, Assam, Jharkhand and Bihar have ratified the Bill.
