New Delhi, Aug 3: The BJP will finalise the name of its chief ministerial candidate for Gujarat by tomorrow, said I & B Minister M Venkaiah Naidu. He was speaking to the media after the meeting of Parliamentary Board of BJP at 7 RCR .

Naidu said that BJP Parliamentary Board today accepted the resignation of incumbent Gujarat Chief Minister Aanadiben Patel who had tendered her resignation on 1 August ahead of the most important assembly elections slated for 2017.

The BJP Parliamentary Board authorised party president Amit Shah to look for a replacement of Patel, who will formally tender her resignation to Gujarat Governor O. P. Kohli later today. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader Saroj Pandey were appointed as observers for electing the new Gujarat chief minister.

BJP values the efforts of Aanandiben for her commitment and devotion towards the party for her excellent and prolonged service first as Minister and then two years of chief ministership in Gujarat, said Naidu.

">Amidst media speculations of shifting of National President Amit Shah to Gujarat, Naidu ruled out the possibility of Shah becoming the chief minister, although he will be present at the meeting of party MLAs. The BJP board praised Anandiben today for "setting an example for lakhs of BJP workers," Naidu said.

Patel, Gujarat's first woman chief minister, had announced her resignation on Facebook on Monday, saying she was quitting two months before her 75th birthday in accordance with the party's practice of retiring older leaders to give a chance to younger leaders.
